In Baseball Fever in Baltimore: Frank, Brooks, Boog, Earl and the 1969-1971 Orioles by Mark R. Millikin describes the Baltimore Orioles' three American League pennants in a row, behind star slugger Frank Robinson's team leadership on and off the field. Early Weaver's groundbreaking use of players' statistics enabled him to make the best use of his players each day depending on their opponent, and he electrified Oriole fans with his on the filed antics with umpires. Boog Powell's slugging and Brooks Robinson's fielding and clutch hitting also carried the Orioles along with their superb starting pitchers, Dave McNally, Mike Cuellar, and Jim Palmer ( and Pat Dobson in 1971). Millikin describes Oriole baseball fever he witnessed that was palpable in offices, lunchrooms, on the street and at Memorial Stadium. No other period in Oriole history fostered the amount of optimism fans felt before each game - their team won two out of every three games during that period. Baseball Fever in Baltimore is the followup to Millikin's earlier book, The Glory of the 1966 Orioles and Baltimore.
