Early Weaver's groundbreaking use of players' statistics enabled him to make the best use of his players each day depending on their opponent, and he electrified Oriole fans with his on the filed antics with umpires. Boog Powell's slugging and Brooks Robinson's fielding and clutch hitting also carried the Orioles along with their superb starting pitchers, Dave McNally, Mike Cuellar, and Jim Palmer ( and Pat Dobson in 1971).
